Premier International School held a Parent-Student Information Session about the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program and subject selection on 14th February 2022. The event was led by Ms. Chantal Lama; an IBDP French teacher, and an IBDP academic counselor. Since the school would be providing an IB Diploma education formally from the coming year, the event was aimed at familiarizing students and parents with the IBDP courses. The program was designed for Grade 10, their parents, and some teachers.
The program began at 3:00 pm and was held at the school’s Executive Hall where Ms. Lama introduced herself and gave a presentation about the program. IB is a worldwide education program founded to allow students to receive an education suitable for a globalizing world, which is meant to develop students’ intellectual, emotional, personal, and social skills. The program primarily highlighted the essence of an IB Diploma program. In her words, “It does not matter from which background or how much skill a student has to receive a diploma. All that one requires is full dedication and the given opportunity. Premerians are lucky to get such a type of facility from PYP (Primary Year Program) and MYP (Middle Years Program).” The host talked further on the requirements of an IBDP which included special subjects in different groups, extra activities like CAS (Creativity Activity Service), TOK (Theory of knowledge), and EE (Environmental Education). An IB Diploma Program educates students to be able to explore concepts and issues that have local and global significance. This in turn helps students to acquire in-depth knowledge and understanding of various disciplines.
Ms. Lama emphasized the core values of receiving an IB Diploma education that enables students to understand and apply critical thinking skills, which would ultimately help them to decide the right program to pursue their studies further. The event ended at 3:55 pm with a question and answer session amongst the parents, students, teachers, and Ms. Lama. A light refreshment was served to the guests and teachers present.
